Add Printers to Windows 7

NOTE: Look in the bottom left hand corner of your Windows Desktop screen.

If you see a rectangle that says "START" you are running Windows XP and this knowledge base article is NOT for you.  You will want to read the Knowledge Base Article for "Add Printers to Windows XP".

If you see a colorful circle with no words then you are running Windows 7 and this is the Article for you.

Detailed instructions for adding a printer to YOUR login under Windows 7.

Remember that this will add the printer to whoever is logged in to the computer.  A different user logging in to the same computer would have to add the printer for themselves.  It doesn't carry over from one user to the next.

You only have to do this once per login, per computer and it will stick.

CLICK START

CLICK DEVICE AND PRINTERS

CLICK ADD PRINTER

CLICK ADD NETWORK, WIRELESS or BLUETOOTH

CLICK THE PRINTER THAT I WANT ISN'T LISTED

CLICK the TOP BUTTON that says; "FIND A PRINTER IN THE DIRECTORY..."

CLICK NEXT

In the NAME BOX, type the school you are at (RS, BF, VV, SL, NO, HS, REC) and press ENTER
(This will show ONLY the available printers for your school)

In the LIST below you will see all the printers that you can choose from
DOUBLE-CLICK the Printer that you want.

After it's installed CLICK NEXT.

By DEFAULT there is a box that is checked to make it your DEFAULT printer.
Uncheck this box if you don't want it as your DEFAULT printer.

    I did all of the above steps to add the color printer from the RS office to my laptop and it is not showing a connection.
