CREATING AN APPLE I.D. THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE A CREDIT CARD (ver 2.0)
IMPORTANT! FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS OR YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT IN A CREDIT CARD AND YOU DO NOT WANT THAT:
(1) SIGN OUT whoever is “signed in” on your iPad
(a) PRESS the HOME button on the iPad
(the physical round button on the face of the iPad)
(b) TAP the “SETTINGS” App (A gray icon)
(if you don’t see it then slide your finger across the face of the iPad to get to
the different pages of Apps until you see it.
(c) On left panel scroll down and TAP to “ITUNES & APP STORE”
(d) On the right panel if there is a name to the right of “APPLE I.D.” TAP on the name
and then TAP “SIGN OUT” whoever is logged in there. You should see a gray
"example@icloud.com" indicating that you are signed out.
(2) DOWNLOAD a FREE APP
(a) PRESS the HOME button on the iPad (same as what you did in 1(a))
(b) TAP the “APP STORE” App (Blue icon)
(c) On the bottom of the screen make sure to TAP “Featured”
(d) On the top right of the screen by the magnifying glass TAP in the box and type; “FREE”
(e) TAP on the “FREE” listing. This will list all the FREE apps available for download
(f) TAP on any App that says “FREE” (Note: Tap the word “FREE” in blue)
(example: “Flow Free” game).
(g) Where you TAPPED “FREE” it now says; “INSTALL”. TAP “Install”
(3) CREATE NEW APPLE I.D.
(a) A box will pop up titled “SIGN IN”.
(b) TAP “CREATE NEW APPLE I.D.”
(c) A box will pop up titled “NEW ACCOUNT”
(d) TAP “United States” and TAP “Next”
(e) Scroll down the license agreement and TAP “Agree”
(f) The next box should ask for the email that you want to use to be your “SCHOOL
APPLE I.D.”. This can be ANY email. For your convenience since it’s a
SCHOOL iPad you can use your school email login name
("4/3@sdmfschools.org") and that will become your Apple I.D.
Please write it down somewhere as your “SCHOOL APPLE I.D.”
(g) Type in the password that you will use for your SCHOOL APPLE I.D.
(This can be anything that you want. Must be 8 characters long with at least 1
capital letter and at least 1 number and perhaps a special character like “!”.)
NOTE: This will be the password that you will use when you download FREE
apps with your iPad.
Please write it down somewhere as your SCHOOL APPLE I.D. password.
(h) Yes, you have to type in the same password again on the “Verify” line below.
(i) Pick and Answer the 3 security questions.
(j) You do NOT need to enter an “Optional Rescue Email”
(k) Enter Month, Day, Year of Birth (you don’t have to be accurate ;-)
(l) TAP both GREEN buttons next to “Subscribe” so that you don’t receive more email
(m) TAP “Next” at the bottom of the screen. (If you’re password isn’t good enough for
Apple it will make you keep trying more complex passwords. (See 3 (g) above)
(4) MAKE SURE THAT CREDIT CARD HAS "NONE" SELECTED.
(a) A box will pop up with credit card options
(b) MAKE SURE that NONE is selected !! IMPORTANT!!
(c) Enter your Billing Address and Phone number
(Again, this doesn’t need to be accurate)
(d) TAP “Next”
(5) Complete the process, VERIFY your email and download the FREE app
(a) A box pops up asking for the very password that you JUST created
(b) Enter your SCHOOL APPLE I.D. password and TAP next
(c) A box pops up saying that “You have not verified your account”. TAP “OK”
(d) Apple sent an email to the email address that you chose in this process to be
Your SCHOOL APPLE I.D. (done in process 3(f) )
(e) Go to your email on your computer or in Safari on the iPad (however you normally
Get your email. Find the email that Apple sent you, open it and click “VERIFY”
(f) Type in your SCHOOL APPLE I.D. from process 3 (f)
(g) Type in your SCHOOL APPLE I.D. Password from process 3 (g)
(h) Click “VERIFY ADDRESS”
(i) Go back to your iPad where you were downloading that FREE app and try your
SCHOOL APPLE I.D. Password again
(j) When you see the little blue circle next to the FREE App start to get thicker then
You are successful !!
Please write down your SCHOOL APPLE I.D. and PASSWORD for future reference.
You can now download any FREE apps that you like on your iPad.
